BHUCC - Long Beach

BHUCC provides rapid mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and medication support. Clients are permitted a stay of up to 24 hours (overnight stays are allowed). Those who are unable to stabilize after 24 hours are transitioned to a higher level of care. All clients receive continuing mental health services and other supportive services when they return home to help maintain ongoing stability. The BHUCC also features a Crisis Walk-In Center (CWIC) open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., where people can come in if they are experiencing a crisis.

MOBILE SERVICES

ACCESS Hotline

ACCESS operates 24 hours/day, 7 days/week as the entry point for mental health services in Los Angeles County. Services include deployment of crisis evaluation teams (PMRT) and mental health information and referrals.

Psychiatric Mobile Response Team (PMRT)

Psychiatric Emergency Response Teams (PMRT) is comprised of the Department of Mental Health (DMH) clinical staff assigned to specific mobile response teams located in the eight Los Angeles County Service Areas. PMRT responds to requests for mobile psychiatric services within sixty minutes of the initial referral. PMRT assesses individuals with MediCal or Medi-Medi insurance.

Psychiatric Emergency Team 

Psychiatric Emergency Teams (PET) are mobile response teams based in and operated by psychiatric hospitals approved by the Department of Mental Health to provide 5150 and 5585 evaluations. Team members are licensed mental health clinicians. PET operates similar to PMRT and provides additional resources in specific geographical regions. PET assesses individuals with commercial or Medicare insurance.

The Centralized Assessment Team

The Centralized Assessment Team (CAT) program provides remote emergency psychiatric evaluation services in Orange County cities in conjunction with law enforcement professionals. The program serves any adult experiencing an emergency psychiatric situation who may also need psychiatric hospitalization. The team can also provide important information to family members for relevant community support services.

Police Department, Mental Health Evaluation Team (MET)

When there is a mental health crisis that is not imminent, the local police department can do a welfare check. After the police make contact with the person, they may call for a mental health professional to assist in the evaluation.
